Holographic Monopole Catalysis of Baryon Decay

We study how monopole catalysis of baryon decay is realized in holographic QCD. Physics of monopole catalysis becomes much simpler in holographic description as it occurs due to the violation of the Bianchi identity for the 5D gauge symmetry when magnetic monopole is present. In holographic QCD we find a unified picture of the baryon number violation under magnetic monopole or electroweak sphaleron, giving a new mechanism of baryon number violation. We also embed our set-up in the string theory model by Sakai and Sugimoto.Comment: 18 pages, v2: references adde

Black Holes at the LHC: Progress since 2002

We review the recent noticeable progresses in black hole physics focusing on the up-coming super-collider, the LHC. We discuss the classical formation of black holes by particle collision, the greybody factors for higher dimensional rotating black holes, the deep implications of black hole physics to the `energy-distance' relation, the security issues of the LHC associated with black hole formation and the newly developed Monte-Carlo generators for black hole events.Comment: 6 pages, 10 figures, Plenary talk given at the 16th International Conference on Supersymmetry and the Unification of Fundamental Interactions (SUSY08), Seoul, Korea (June 16-21, 2008). Inflation in the nonminimal theory with `K(phi)R' term

    Get PDF
A class of inflationary models with the nonminimal coupling term `K(phi)R' is considered. We show that the successful inflation can take place if the ratio between the square of the nonminimal coupling term and the potential for the scalar goes asymptotically constant.Comment: 3 pages, 1 figure, Talk given at 16th International Conference on Supersymmetry and the Unification of Fundamental Interactions (SUSY08), Seoul, Korea, 16-21 Jun 200

Optimal Linear Precoding for Indoor Visible Light Communication System

Visible light communication (VLC) is an emerging technique that uses light-emitting diodes (LED) to combine communication and illumination. It is considered as a promising scheme for indoor wireless communication that can be deployed at reduced costs while offering high data rate performance. In this paper, we focus on the design of the downlink of a multi-user VLC system. Inherent to multi-user systems is the interference caused by the broadcast nature of the medium. Linear precoding based schemes are among the most popular solutions that have recently been proposed to mitigate inter-user interference. This paper focuses on the design of the optimal linear precoding scheme that solves the max-min signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) problem. The performance of the proposed precoding scheme is studied under different working conditions and compared with the classical zero-forcing precoding. Simulations have been provided to illustrate the high gain of the proposed scheme.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures, accepted for publication in ICC proceedings 201

Measurement of the Forward-Backward Charge Asymmetry in Top-Quark Pair Production in Proton-Antiproton Collisions at D0

A measurement of the forward-backward charge asymmetry in top-antitop (t\bar{t}) pair production in proton-antiproton (p\bar{p}) collisions is presented. The asymmetry is measured for different jet multiplicities in the lepton+jets final state on 0.9 fb^{-1} of data collected by the D0 experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. The result is sensitive to new physics, which is demonstrated by setting an upper limit on t\bar{t} production via heavy neutral gauge bosons (Z^{\prime}).Comment: Presented at 16th International Conference on Supersymmetry and the Unification of Fundamental Interactions (SUSY08), Seoul, Korea, 16-21 Jun 200
